Massage Therapies

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage can be very beneficial for many purposes: to release tension, promote relaxation, increase circulation and lymphatic drainage, and to reduce muscular tightness. A special type of massage can be used to target and specifically reduce lymphatic problems which removes accumulated fluid. In theory, manual skin kneading combined with lymphatic drainage may result in smoothing of soft tissues and elimination of excess fluid but this has never been proven.  However, the theory is that if lymph circulation is poor, then this results in thickened fibers that bind with the septa (fibers of collagen that run through fat cells). This process can create thick strands that push harder on to fat, making it bulge upwards creating the dimple, cottage cheese effect.

Massage Treatment

A massage session is generally an hour in length, can vary somewhat in price. Clients are usually asked to remove as much clothing at their comfort level and rest on a well-padded massage table. The masseuse will provide the client as much personal respect as possible.

Various techniques available (Swedish massage, relaxation, deep tissue, Trigenics using trigger points, and hot stone or cold stone massage available).

Relaxation Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $45

Relieves muscular aches and pain, reduces tension, improves circulation and restores range of motion to joints. This treatment is performed only by a Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.).

Swedish Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $45

In the early 1800s, the Swedish Massage was developed to work the body's soft tissue and lymphatic system. Using a combination of highly effective, specific strokes, Swedish Massage relieves muscular aches and pain, reduces tension, improves circulation and restores range of motion to joints. This treatment is performed only by a Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.).

Deep Tissue Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $55

Deep Tissue Massage is a more "specific" therapeutic treatment for those who are active. This treatment is an excellent choice for those suffering from chronic aches and pains or following a workout, hike or a game of golf. This treatment is performed only by a Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.).

Hot Stone Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $45

The lingering heat from the smooth river stones on the body will melt away muscular tension. The stones will then become an extension of the therapist's hand for a uniquely soothing massage. You will experience a state of relaxation within minutes for a complete body, mind and soul treatment.

Sports Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $45

Massage has become an integral part of the new athletic regimen from sports medicine clinics, to college training rooms, to professional Olympic training. Growing number of trainers believe that massage can provide an extra edge to the athletes who participate in high performance sports. Anyone who routinely stretches their physical limits through movement such as running, cycling, hiking, swimming, dancing, tennis and other racquet sports, strength training and aerobics can benefit from a massage. Incorporating massage in your conditioning program has many benefits. It helps you get into good shape faster, and with less stiffness and soreness. It helps you recover faster from heavy workouts, and relieves conditions which may cause injury.

Pregnancy Massage:
30 minutes - $30
60 minutes - $45

Pregnancy massage is massage therapy specifically tailored for the expectant mother's needs. It is also called pre-natal massage. Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints.  It's a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited.  Not only can massage be physically beneficial, but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy.
